Deep within the mesmerizing rolling hills, resided a shepherd boy. His life was pure, simple, and honest. His primary duty was mainly to tend to his herd of rams.
Their soft bleating and the rustling of the wind across the lone tree read more on the mountaintop were his only companions. Day upon day, looking out for his wards inculcated in him a feeling of quiet fulfillment.

One day he ran into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but saw no wolf.
The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This trick laughed for a couple of more days. However, one morning, a real wolf did charge at the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy raced for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the village only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the results of crying wolf.
The tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is hard to reclaim. It's a story as appropriate today as it was anciently.
